India-bound Kawasaki Z400 at the Thai Motor Expo 2018 - Live

Kawasaki Motors Thailand has showcased the all-new Z400 naked streetfighter at the ongoing Thai Motor Show 2018 in Bangkok (29 November to 10 December). The Kawasaki Z400 made its world premiere at the EICMA 2018 on 7 November in Milan, Italy.

The India-bound Kawasaki Z400 is the latest addition to the Kawasaki Z family and is the naked version of the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The looks of the Z400 are inspired by the Sugomi design philosophy, which has become the basis of every new Kawasaki model.

The Kawasaki Z400 features a full-LED headlight, muscular fuel tank, wide handlebar and a raised & sculpted tail section. A steel trellis chassis underpins the Z400, which is also seen on the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The race-derived frame has worked wonders for the Japanese bike maker.

The Kawasaki Z400 will initially be launched in the European markets, while other global markets will get it later. The motorcycle is expected to be launched in India next year. Powering the Europe-spec Z400 is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor that makes out 45 PS of power and 38 Nm of peak torque, mated to a slipper-clutch assisted 6-speed transmission.

The European model adheres to the A2 license restrictions, which limits beginner performance bikes to not exceed a maximum power of 47 bhp (35 kW), while the power-to-weight ratio should not surpass 0.2kW per kg (175 kg for a 47 bhp model). Since the Euro-spec Kawasaki Z400 tips the scales with a kerb weight of 167 kilograms, the output is limited to 45 bhp.

The India-spec model will make 49 PS of maximum power and 38 Nm of torque. These are the same output figures as compared to the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The Z400 shares its mechanical parts like suspension, brakes and wheels with the Ninja 400. In the domestic market, the Kawasaki Z400 will compete with the likes of KTM 390 Duke and the BMW G 310 R.
