Surprise world premieres.

The KTM RC250 and KTM 250 Duke were unveiled today at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show. The Bajaj-owned KTM's new motorcycles will launch in Japan in June with the RC250 priced at ¥ 620,000 (INR 3.25 lakhs), and the 250 Duke at ¥ 550,000 (INR 2.88 lakhs), according to the news on Response.jp.

The 250 Duke and the RC250 are likely to be exclusively manufactured in India, and exported worldwide.

While KTM did not release a lot of information, it is reported that KTM officials have said that the engine is a downsized mill from the 390. Weighing at a class-lowest 37.2 kg, it punches out 31 hp at 9,000 rpm, with maximum torque of 24 Nm at 7,250 rpm. The RC250 weighs 147 kg, while the Duke tips the scales at 139 kg.

The RC250 would lock horns with the Honda CBR 250R and the Kawasaki Ninja 250SL.

The motorcycle is assembled on the same steel trellis frame, as its immediate family members, that has inherited the design and concept from Moto3 Project. The low displacement RC and Duke bikes are manufactured at Bajaj' Chakan plant, and the RC 250, being a derivative, is also likely to be rolled out of this facility.

While the 250 cc KTMs look like paper tigers for KTM to contend in the hectic Indian quarter liter segment, like the KTM 125 Duke, there is a chance that they may not be retailed in India.
