Launch on September 2.
Jaguar Land Rover India today announced that it has received 200 orders for the upcoming Land Rover Discovery Sport. The model will be assembled in Jaguar Land Rover's facility in India with CKD kits, and launch on September 2.
The Discovery Sport will compete in India against the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60. The SUV measures 4,599 mm in length, 2,173 mm in width, 1,724 mm in height and 2,741 mm in wheelbase. When launched, the Discovery Sport will be the only model amongst its competition to offer a 5+2 seating option, most likely to make it more appealing to the Indian customer.
While JLR announced that in international markets like Europe and South Korea, the Discovery Sport will receive the 2.0-liter Ingenium engines, it is being reported that the SUV will begin its Indian innings with the Ford-sourced 2.2-liter diesel engine.
This diesel motor comes in two power outputs, 147 bhp and 187 bhp with both engines being mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission with 4WD and Land Rover's patented Terrain Response system as standard. Inside the successor to the Freeelander 2 will be JLR's latest InControl entertainment system with rotary dial control.
The Ingenium engine could be launched in the India-spec model later, and will debut on the Jaguar XE.
