Will be sold as a CKD product right from launch.
We had previously reported that assembly of the Land Rover Discovery Sport has commenced in full swing at the company’s Pune facility, and that bookings have also started at authorized dealers. Now JLR India has confirmed that the successor to the Freelander 2 will arrive in showrooms from September 2.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport measures 4,599 mm in length, 2,173 mm in width, 1,724 mm in height and 2,741 mm in wheelbase. When launched, it will be the first mid-size luxury SUV in the segment to offer a 5+2 seating option. There is currently not much detail about the features but Terrain Response and Park Assist have been confirmed.
The same 2.2-liter SD4 diesel engine will be powering the initial units. Later on, JLR is expected to introduce the more modern and fuel efficient 2.0-liter Ingenium range of diesel engines. The older engine will come in tunes of 147 and 187 bhp paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission, sending torque to all four wheels.
