Mahindra Rexton launch postponed to late-October - Report
As per a report by Cartoq, the launch of the Mahindra Rexton, which was earlier reported to take place on 9 October, has been pushed backwards for a few weeks. The reason is said to be the flurry of new launches and product previews during the first half of October 2018 such as the Hyundai AH2 and the new Honda CR-V.
Postponing the launch by a couple of weeks will help Mahindra garner the complete attention of media and new car buyers. This month, it came to light that Ssangyong has started shipping the CKD kits of the G4 Rexton to India. While the market name of the new flagship SUV is not confirmed at the moment, the South Korean SUV will be sold in India as a Mahindra model.
The Mahindra Rexton will be powered by a 2.2-litre e-XDi220 LET turbocharged diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual and a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission. The oil burner produces a maximum power of 187 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm with the manual transmission, and 187 PS and 420 Nm with the automatic unit. The new flagship SUV from Mahindra will offer a part-time 4WD system. Internationally, the Rexton is also available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that comes mated to an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the petrol variant is unlikely to make it to India.
The latest generation Rexton is the world's first model to be constructed using a quad-frame body structure with 63% 1.5Gpa-grade high-strength steel. Other safety features will include an electric parking brake, nine airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control and more.
Barring a new grille with a Mahindra badge, the Rexton will look exactly like its Ssangyong-badged counterpart. The features list will include HID headlights, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), ventilated seats, leather upholstery, electric sunroof and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
