Reader Gokulraj G Kanagaraj has spotted a test mule of the top-spec Mahindra S201 in Chennai. While an earlier sighting revealed the electric sunroof of the top grade of the company's Maruti Vitara Brezza-rival, the latest clip offers a look at the compact SUV's LED glow and rear disc brake.
The Mahindra S201 will reportedly launch in January next year. The Maruti Vitara Brezza adversary will be based on the Ssangyong Tivoli and of a high specification. That said, the S201 will measure less than 4.0-metres in length, which will help the vehicle benefit from lower GST. The overall design will carry several minor changes and is expected to feature a new grille, new bumpers and horizontal tail lamps instead of the vertical units on the Korean crossover. The interior shouldn't differ except for the quality and colours.
The Mahindra S201 will be available in petrol and diesel variants. The turbocharged gasoline motor will displace 1.2-litre and is likely to offer a good mix of performance and fuel efficiency. The compact SUV will receive the Marazzo's 1.5-litre oil burner that outputs 121 bhp and 300 Nm. It comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The equipment list will include LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, electric sunroof, passive keyless entry, engine start-stop button, and a touchscreen infotainment system that is likely to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

To comply with the stringent safety norms that come into effect from 1 April 2019, all variants of the S201 will offer driver's side airbag, ABS, Isofix child seat restraints, Speed Alert System, Seatbelt Reminder and reverse parking sensors as standard features.
The Mahindra S201 should launch at a starting price of INR 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol variant.
