IAB’s Shoeb Kalania has worked on a rendering of the Mahindra S201’s rear, to show how completely different it is from the SsangYong Tivoli, the donor model.
The Mahindra S201 in the rendering has a different character to that of the Tivoli, thanks to the Mahindra Alturas G4 (G4 SsangYong Rexton)-inspired horizontal combination lamps. The tailgate and bumper design also have no reflection of the South Korean model. The license plate indentation is on the tailgate instead of the bumper. A chrome strip and silver bumper garnish enhance the styling.
The Mahindra S201 is the company’s fourth attempt at sub-4 metre urban SUVs after the Mahindra NuvoSport (Mahindra Quanto), the Mahindra KUV100 and the Mahindra TUV300. It is squarely aimed at the Maruti Vitara Brezza, measuring under 4,000 mm long to attract the least possible GST rates (for petrol and diesel four-wheelers).
The new sub-compact SUV’s engine options will include a new 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and the Mahindra Marazzo’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that develops 121 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
The Mahindra S201 will offer a much better equipment package than the TUV300. Spy media and reports point at features like LED headlamps, machined alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, four-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags and ESP.

The Mahindra S201’s market launch is in January 2019. A pure electric variant (Mahindra eS201) is also planned, Mahindra has confirmed, and according to a recent report, it will follow in mid-2020.
