Mahindra is displaying the Mahindra Thar Daybreak at the NADA Auto Show 2017. Introduced at Auto Expo 2016, the Daybreak edition model is an officially modified Thar for extreme off-roading.

The Mahindra Thar Daybreak has modifications to give it a much greater go-anywhere capability over the regular model. These include off-road oriented front bumper with a winch, 37-inch Maxxis Trepador tyres, snorkel, lift jack and high-mounted exterior mirrors. Mahindra has raised the suspension to make space for the mammoth tyres.

Aesthetic and functional highlights include projector headlamps with daytime running lights, gloss black front grille, half-cut doors, auxiliary amber lights, LED tail lamps, orange highlights on the various exterior and interior elements, Sparco rally seats and tripod instrument cluster.

The Mahindra Thar Daybreak is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 105 bhp at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque from 1,800-2,000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the wheels and a four-wheel drive system takes care of the distribution. The Daybreak edition has semi-elliptical leaf spring suspensions (front and rear).

Launch plans for the Daybreak edition in Nepal are unknown. In India, the transformation of the regular Thar into Thar Daybreak costs INR 9.6 lakh (excluding the donor car). The hard-top version has an asking price of INR 1.5 lakh extra over the cost of these modifications.
