The next generation Grand Vitara from Suzuki is still several years away from launch, according to a report from Car Advice. The publication was told by Suzuki Australia's general manager, Andrew Moore, that a medium-sized SUV is under development but it is quite far away from hitting the showrooms.
The company's immediate focus is on getting the iv-4 compact SUV into showrooms. Shown as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, prototypes of the SUV have been spotted testing in Europe recently. The market launch of the iv-4 is expected to take place by mid-2015, but the company has no plans to launch the vehicle in India.
Instead, Maruti will be launching the SX4 S-Cross in India early next year, and are expected to follow it up with the XA-Alpha mini SUV shown at the 2012 Auto Expo.
The current Grand Vitara continues to be available in India, but it brings no sales volume for the company. The SUV has not sold a single unit in the past year (July 2013 - June 2014). At this point it is unknown if Maruti will offer the next generation Grand Vitara in India.
