Suzuki's new India-specific 1.5-litre diesel engine is likely to debut in the next gen Ertiga.

The Japanese automaker's 800 cc diesel engine is a part of a modular architecture that will spawn more derivatives in the future. A 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit for Europe and a 1.5-litre engine specifically developed to comply with the Indian sub-4 metre excise duty norms are reported to be next in line.

The Ciaz facelift is expected to feature the new diesel motor.

The publication reports that the new diesel engine will complement the current Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS mill rather than replace it. The upcoming SUV and the next gen Ertiga are touted to be the first candidates to receive the new oil burner. The newly launched Ciaz could also feature this engine when it is due for a midlife refresh.
