The 2014 Mazda3 hatchback has just broken cover but the rendering of the upcoming sedan version has already started floating online.
For the Japanese car maker, a lot depends on the new Mazda6 and Mazda3. It is compulsory that the Mazda3 Sedan complements the hatchback globally to bring financial stability to the company.
The new generation Mazda3 hatchback is based on new lightweight chassis and adopts the new "Kodo – Soul of Motion" design language like the CX-5 and the Mazda6. The design and the proportions are spot on to say the least!
The sedan version of the car looks even more dynamic and elegant. Expect the simple yet sporty interior of the hatchback to be carried over to the sedan as well.
The new car is lighter by a good 90kg while being 30% stiffer than the outgoing car. That should do a world of good to the way it handles.
Powering the Mazda3 is a range of SKYACTIV powertrains which include 1.5L, 2.0L and 2.5L petrol engines and a 2.2L diesel engine. The car can be specced with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. i-ELOOP brake energy recuperation is also included in the package. The Mazda3 Sedan is expected to adopt the same range of powertrains.
The hatchback will hit the US market in September before going global. The sedan version will be unveiled later this year.
