The GLS will continue to be made in Alabama, USA.
Mercedes Passion Blog reports that the Mercedes GL facelift, which will be called the Mercedes GLS in accordance to the brand's new nomenclature, will have its premiere in November this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The publication states that the exterior will see changes to the headlights, grille, taillights and bumpers, but the overall design of the flagship SUV will continue unchanged. The headlights are set to get bigger with inclusion of Mercedes's LED lighting technology, the report adds.
On the mechanical front, the GLS is expected to trade its double-clutch 7-speed 7G-TRONIC gearbox for a more advanced 9-speed 9G-TRONIC unit, while the engines will see an overall improvement in power and torque figures.
Interior updates are likely to extend to the COMAND infotainment system, and the addition of the fingertip-based controller that debuted on the new C Class.
