Mitsubishi is on the verge of introducing the Attrage sedan in Thailand and in the meanwhile we bring you updates on the car’s prospects in Indonesia.
The Mitsubishi Attrage is nothing but the sedan avatar of the Mirage. The compact hatchback is being sold in Indonesia but the sedan may not be launched there as a private car.
Regular Indian Autos Blog readers know that the Indonesians love MPVs in the lower segment and as we move up the ladder, the preference switches to SUVs rather than sedans. Sedans have been sidelined by the Indonesian customers and hence the car makers are not so bullish about launching one there, certainly not with private users as the target audience.
If there is one segment in Indonesia where the compact and mid-size sedans are accepted with arms wide open, it is the taxi segment. Popular sedans like the Toyota Vios, Nissan Almera, Hyundai Accent (the Verna in India) and Chevrolet Kalos (Aveo) are being widely used as Taxis in Indonesia.
The Indonesian media reports that Mitsubishi wants to market the Attrage as a taxicab in the country. Mr. Rizwan Alamsjah, Executive Marketing Director, PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (Mitsubishi’s Indonesian partner) told reporters that the decision to launch Attrage in Indonesia as a taxi is still under consideration.
The Attrage is powered by a 1.2 litre three cylinder MIVEC petrol engine that develops 76 bhp and 100 Nm of torque. The motor is paired either to a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission.
With its spacious interior and boot along with a fuel efficient motor, the Attrage makes a strong case for itself in this segment.
