New colours of Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR launched in India

India Yamaha Motors (IYM) has launched the Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR in four new colours. The front drum brake model costs INR 53,451, and the disc variant costs INR 55,898. Both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

The new colours are Armada Blue, Matt Green, Maverick Blue, and Rooster Red. The disc variant is available in all the four colours, while the drum version comes in Matt Green and Maverick Blue. The new colours add to the already-existing Dark Knight version, which comes with a front disc brake, apart from exclusive colour scheme. Mechanically, there are no changes to the scooter. Roy Kurian, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said:

As the two-wheeler industry recorded a growth of almost 8% in the year 2017, the scooters segment maintained its growth momentum at 12%. The brand has been able to make steady inroads and will rev hearts with many more exciting products, particularly targeted at trend conscious young customers. By introducing new colours in Cygnus Ray ZR, the company will look forward to reinstate fresh excitement in this segment.

The design of the Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR realizes the Real Boys’ Scooter concept, complete with a sculpted front mask, layered straight lines, and a sporty grab handle at the rear. On the utility front, the scooter has a 21-litre under seat storage; hook below the seat; apron pockets, and a key shutter locking system. The instrumentation is analogue. Powering the Ray-ZR is a 113 cc SOHC engine with air cooling and carburettor. The Blue Core technology in the engine helps I achieving a claimed efficiency figure of 66 km/l under standard test conditions. The engine pumps out 7.2 PS of power at 7,500 rpm, and 8.1 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm.

The scooter rides on telescopic front fork, and a single shock absorber at the rear. Brakes include drum brakes on both ends, with a front disc as an option. The 10-inch alloy wheels are shod with 90-section tubeless tyres. Competitors of the Ray-ZR include the Honda Dio, Hero Maestro Edge, and TVS Jupiter.
