Spy shots of the eighth-gen Toyota Camry snapped during local testing last week poured cold water on rumours of the car's discontinuation in India. New images shared by Team-BHP forum member GTB/4 reaffirm that the D-segment sedan is getting a full model change.
Unlike its predecessor, the new generation Toyota Camry takes a unified approach, with the same design serving markets across the globe. It looks athletic the way North America wants it yet graceful and upscale as the customers in the East prefer. Key to the striking new look is the TNGA platform underpinning the car that allowed designers to give it a low and wide stance. The fully renewed interior is a fusion of futuristic styling and rich craftsmanship.
As before, the Toyota Camry is a petrol-only offering. For customers seeking a higher level of efficiency, there’s a hybrid variant of the petrol model, but no diesel. In India, TKM may sell only the frugal hybrid variant that delivers a fuel economy of 33.4 km/l (JC 08 test cycle). In that case, under the curvaceous 1.6-inch-lower aluminium hood, will rest the A25A-FXS 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Engine (178 PS/221 Nm) assisted by the 3NM electric motor (120 PS/202 Nm).
LED headlamps, fog lamps and tail lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, subtle rear spoiler lip, chrome exhaust finisher and the brand emblems tinged in a blue hue will likely form the exterior highlights of the Indian-spec version.
Inside, expect the VW Passat & Skoda Superb rival to feature 8-inch central display, 7-inch multi-information display, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, 8-way power adjustable front seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear seat vents and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging.

The 2019 Toyota Camry may cost in the region of INR 40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The old model retails at INR 37.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
