A Japanese car magazine has rendered the next generation Toyota Prius PHEV that will be sold alongside the regular Prius hybrid.
Compared to the Prius, the Prius PHEV features distinctive design elements over an identical silhouette. It gets a new front end inspired by the Toyota Mirai with sleek LED headlamps, stylized LED DRLs beside the foglamps, and new alloy wheel designs. The rear end sports a taillight design similar to the Toyota C-HR concept, which replaces the vertical LED taillamps of the regular Prius.
The interior is likely to be identical to the Prius, which comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 4.2-inch color dual Multi-Information Display (MID) with customizable screens, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, 4-way adjustable front passenger seat and Qi wireless charging.

It will be based on Toyota's new TNGA platform, and pack the Prius's hybrid powertrain, which comprises of a 1.8 litre Atkinson-cycle VVT-i engine that is reported get a slight increase in output from 97 hp and 142 Nm to 105 hp and 147 Nm, while one of the two electric motors could output 90 hp (up from 71 hp).
The report also claims that the fuel consumption will significantly increase from 40.8 km per litre to 70 km per litre (JC08 cycle), and the range in electric mode is expected to double from 26.4 km in the current Prius PHEV to 50 km.
