Will be based on CLAR RWD platform.

The current, third generation BMW X5 (BMW F15) premiered in May 2013 and hit the production lines at the Spartanburg plant in USA in August 2013. The German automaker has already started working on the fourth generation of the 'Sports Activity Vehicle', as seen in spy shots published earlier this year.

A set of speculative renderings by Remco Meulendijk preview the next-gen BMW X5, which is still far from market launch, as the current generation model is yet to receive its mid-life facelift.

The 2019 BMW X5 may feature the Carbon Core body construction, and is not expected on the market before 2019.

The current generation BMW X5 is based on a modified version of the previous generation BMW X5's platform, but the next-gen BMW X5 will be completely new, riding on the CLAR (CLuster ARchitecture) rear-wheel drive platform used for the sixth generation BMW 7 Series that hit the production line in June 2015. The next-gen X5 may have a Carbon Core body made of steel, aluminium and CFRP (carbon fibre-reinforced plastic). The CLAR platform also gives modularity in powertrain application, and autonomous driving features.

The 2019 BMW X5's plug-in hybrid variant will bear the 'iPerformance' suffix.

The 2017 BMW X5, like the current BMW X5, should be offered with an array of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines with displacements ranging from 2.0-liter to 4.4-liter. Needless to say, the 2019 BMW X5 will also have a high-performance BMW M variant as well as a plug-in hybrid variant bearing the 'iPerformance' branding.
