I have always noticed that the iDrive system on BMW polarizes people’s opinions. Some feel it’s too complicated and one would require a computer science degree to operate it. Others feel it’s more fun than playing on a Playstation.

BMW has already started work on the next generation iDrive system. The Bavarian giant has partnered with Preh GmgH, a well known automotive supplier for Climate Control, Driver Controls, Sensor Systems, ECUs and Instruments and Innovative Automation to develop the next gen iDrive.
The company has presented a prototype version of the next gen iDrive and by the look of things, it is absurdly simple to operate.
We can expect the next gen iDrive to begin appearing on BMW models by the end of 2013 / early 2014, perhaps with the release of the 2014 X5.
