It was reported that PSA would launch B- and C-Segment models in the country.
Following reports of PSA Peugeot Citroen's planned entry into the Indian market on the back of a deal with Tata Motors for contract manufacturing of three models, the French manufacturer has denied any such plans.
A Reuters report quotes a Peugeot spokesperson who has explicitly said "To date, there is no decision taken regarding a swift return to India." According to the article that reported on the company's deal with one of India's largest automobile manufacturers, the French manufacturer was to introduce the Peugeot 208 hatchback, Peugeot 308 sedan, and the Peugeot 2008 crossover in the Indian market. Production was to take place at Tata Motors' manufacturing facility in Sanand, which makes the Tata Nano.
While Peugeot might have ruled out an immediate entry, the fact that the company in 2014 created the 'India-Pacific' region as part of its organisational structure cannot be overlooked. This suggests that the manufacturer has plans, if not immediate, to enter the country at some point with its wares.
Earlier in 2011, the company was close to being on the ground, with a formal announcement being made regarding the setting up of a facility for production of 170,000 units a year. A crisis in the European market that followed put the India plans in the deep freezer.
