THe Skoda Kodiaq's younger sibling Skoda Karoq has been spotted on Indian soil for the first time. The Skoda Karoq was unveiled back in May as the replacement for the Skoda Yeti. It is rumoured to go on sale in India next year to rival the Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming new Honda CR-V.

Reports indicate that Skoda is evaluating the Karoq for the Indian market. It will compete with the Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming new gen Honda CR-V.

The Skoda Karoq was spotted in an airport parking next to a Skoda Kodiaq. However, the vehicles bear Czech Republic registration plates and are left-hand drive units. As the badge indicates, the Skoda Karoq seen in the images here is 4x4 equipped.

Based on VW's MQB platform, the Skoda Karoq follows the same design philosophy as the Kodiaq that first made an appearance on the Vision C concept. It features Czech crystal glass art inspired elements like the raked tail lights with LED detailing and LED headlamps and fog lamps at the front. Globally, Skoda has announced five powertrain options. These include 115 PS 1.0 L TSI petrol, 150 PS 1.5 L TSI petrol, 115 PS 1.6 L TDI diesel, 150 PS 2.0 L TDI diesel, and 190 PS 2.0 L TDI diesel engines. All engine options barring the 190 PS 2.0 L diesel are available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. The 190 PS diesel variant is available only with the 7-speed DSG.

Parked next to the Skoda Karoq is the Skoda Kodiaq Scout. While the Kodiaq has already gone on sale in India, the Scout variant is not available here. The Scout variant features enhanced underbody protection as evident from the silver finish scuff plate at the front. It also gets distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels and AWD as standard across all engine variants.
