Carwale reports that Skoda Auto India could be planning to launch an Onyx Edition of the Rapid. The new model will be in line with the Skoda Octavia Onyx Edtion launched last year. The special edition of the company's C2-segment sedan will aim to attract car buyers during this year's festive season.
The Skoda Rapid Onyx Edition will be based on the Style trim. The special edition will reportedly offer a sporty body-kit with blacked out headlamps and tail-lamps. The car will also feature a black roof and black outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs). The alloys could be new, too.
On the inside, the Skoda Rapid Onyx Edition is expected to get a new upholstery and new door sill plates. While retaining the features of the Style trim, the new car could also offer some additional features. The limited-run model is expected to cost up to Rs 50,000 more than the Style variant. That said, nothing is official at the moment.
The Onyx Edition won't offer any performance updates. The Skoda Rapid, which is the mechanical cousin of the VW Vento, is available with two engine options - 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel and 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol. The diesel motor is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and a 7-speed DSG automatic as optional. On the other hand, the petrol engine is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed automatic as optional.

With the successor of Rapid still three years away, Skoda Auto India might have to rely solely on special editions, new engine variants and minor facelifts to maintain a sales momentum.
