Skoda is ready with the Skoda Yeti replacement.

Skoda has released the first close-up pictures of the Skoda Karoq. The new compact SUV will have its world premiere on 18 May 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Skoda Karoq replaces the Skoda Yeti and features a more conventional SUV design derived from the Skoda Vision S concept.

Created using the design theme of the Skoda Vision S concept, the Skoda Karoq measures 4,382 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,638 mm (FWD)/2,630 mm (AWD).

Up front, the compact SUV features a wide, three-dimensional radiator grille with vertical double slats, which creates the Skoda (SUV) family's familiar cross section. This grille is flanked by Bohemian glass art-inspired full-LED headlights with eight light strips looking like eyelashes.

Skoda designers have made the wheel arches slightly angular to continue with the new SUV design language on the sides and emphasise the vehicle's outdoorsy character. At the rear, the narrow, raked tail lights have the familiar C-shape and feature LED technology.

The Skoda Karoq is underpinned by the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform and is a replacement for the Skoda Yeti. Skoda will offer it with two petrol and three diesel engines in 1.0-, 1.5-, 1.6-l and 2.0-litre displacements. The maximum power output of these engines range from 85 kW (115 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp), and both petrol and two diesel units are new in the line-up. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG.

The Skoda Karoq is equipped with advanced features like a Skoda-first freely programmable digital instrument panel, infotainment systems with WLAN hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, Skoda phone box with wireless charging, Lane Assist, traffic-jam assistant, Blind Spot Detect and Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection.

The Skoda Karoq will go on sale in Europe in the second half of 2017. There's no word on its Indian launch yet, although Skoda's decision could depend on the VW Tiguan's success in the country.
