To solidify its position as the best-selling Suzuki model in Indonesia, and to build on the position of the fourth best selling vehicle in Indonesia so far in 2013, the Japanese company has planned the Suzuki Ertiga Elegant.
The Ertiga Elegant is based on the GX variant and is a feature-enrichment exercise. Maruti had given India the Ertiga Feliz earlier this year and its now Indonesia's turn to receive something similar, even though the strong sales numbers doesn't warrant one.
The most obvious difference is on the vehicle's exterior which is fitted with a side body moulding, side under spoiler, foglamp with a chrome bezel set, chrome garnish on the lower grille, front under spoiler, rear under spoiler, chrome garnish on the back door, 'Elegant' badge on the back door, rear upper spoiler and a muffler extension.
Moving to the interior, the sole change is the leather upholstery on the seats. A few of these inclusions have always existed in Suzuki's accessories division.
Suzuki has not divulged prices, and one expects to hear them during the Indonesia International Motor Show, scheduled for next month.
If you are in the dark about the Ertiga, the family MPV which Maruti began exporting to Indonesia last year has quickly scaled up the sales charts in the archipelago. The car is equipped with the familiar 1.4L K-Series petrol engine, paired either to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
And the brisk performance isn't an initial post-launch euphoria that any new product generally creates. In the end of July, about a year since bookings opened, riding on a consistently high demand, Suzuki Indonesia had 5,600 Ertigas still to be delivered. This came following an expansion in production capacity to make 7,000 units a month at Suzuki's East Bekasi plant, where the car is assembled.
