The Suzuki GSX250R borrows the powertrain from the Suzuki Inazuma.

In a report published last month, Bike India expects the Suzuki GSX250R to be launched in India by the end of 2017 priced at around INR 3.5 lakhs which is roughly the price of the bike in the UK.

Suzuki India will have to price the Suzuki GSX250R competitively, the bike is reported to be heading to India by end-2017.

With the Suzuki Gixxer now planted in terms of sales, the quarter litre territory will be the natural progression order for the company.

A high price tag of INR 3.5 lakhs will make it a competitor of the Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the upcoming Benelli Tornado 302, which do not just have a capacity advantage but also have a huge power difference.

Suzuki India though will have to tread the grass with care and not repeat the Inazuma debacle which was launched at a hefty price tag of INR 3.1 lakhs and then went through a major price cut before being discontinued due to low sales of total 232 units in its lifetime in India. Another example of an expensive twin cylinder failing to get the desired numbers in the country is the Kawasaki Z250.

If Suzuki can manufacture the Suzuki GSX250R in India and not bring it via the CKD route, they can price it aggressively. A single-cylinder 250 cc motorcycle (following Yamaha India’s philosophy with the Yamaha FZ25) too makes a lot of sense in a price sensitive market like India.

A single-cylinder engine like on the Suzuki TU250X could be suitable for getting to an aggressive price point.

The Suzuki GSX250R is powered by a 248 cc SOHC parallel twin mill which is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. The liquid cooled engine is capable of producing 25 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 23.40 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm.
