Suzuki iM-4 mini SUV to launch next year with 4x4 system in Europe - Report

Likely to replace the Jimny.

Suzuki showcased the iK-2 and iM-4 concepts at the Geneva Motor Show this month, and announced that both will realize into production models. While the company confirmed an early-2016 launch for the iK-2 based production hatchback in Europe, a timeline was not announced for the iM-4.

According a recent report though, the production mini SUV based on the iM-4 will also come out next year, and multiple reports say that the car will replace the now aging Suzuki Jimny.

Underpinning the iK-2 and iM-4 is an all-new platform, for which Suzuki's engineers have redesigned the underbody structure. The manufacturer says that this has enabled for a lighter weight, while increasing the rigidity of the car. Upshots of this platform are better fuel efficiency, stability and handling and improved NVH, according to Suzuki.

The Japanese car maker also announced new powertrain tech for the iK-2 and iM-4 concepts. In case of the latter, described as a SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki), a new mild hybrid system is seen with an ISG (integrated starter generator).

Meanwhile, Suzuki's largest market, India, will get two compact SUVs in the course of 12 months. The first is the SX4 S-Cross which is expected to launch by June this year, and the second is a sub-4 meter SUV codenamed 'YBA' expected in early-2016.
