TVS today launched the TVS Star City+ in an event held in Chennai. According to TVS's study, commuter motorcycles make up for 600,000 units/month of the motorcycle industry which is 850,000 units/month strong. The Star City+ is priced at INR 44,000 ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
The Star City+ is powered by a single-cylinder 110 cc engine, the same engine used on the Star City, Wego and Jupiter. However, TVS engineers have tweaked this motor for more power and torque. Where the regular Star City produces 8.18 hp and 8.1 Nm of torque, the Star City+ makes 8.3 hp at 7,000 rpm and 8.7 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. The transmission on the Star City+ is a 4-speed gearbox, similar to the regular Star City.
The regular Star City has a claimed fuel efficiency of 83.9 km/l, while the Star City+ claims 86 km/l. TVS says that the Star City+ has achieved 65 km/l under customer test conditions. The motorcycle is capable of accelerating from 0-60 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the top-speed is rated at 90 km/h.
The motorcycle also gets a higher capacity air filer, an optimized carburetor, a higher capacity clutch and anti-wear moly coated piston which claims to improve the engine life by 40 percent. Other features in the motorcycle include a stainless steel muffler guard, chrome finished handlebars, colored shock absorbers, electric start, alloy wheels, power/economy mode, service indicator and a dual tone seat. New Dura Life tires claim 12 percent more grip and 20 percent better life, says TVS.
