Two-wheeler news recap of the week - 16-21 September 2019

The Indian automotive industry is going through a major slowdown. Manufactures were hoping to get relief with a GST cut to get things. However, the government continues to ignore the signs of a slowdown and has once again used a cello tape measure to fix things. Manufacturers though are still upbeat for the upcoming festive season. Here’s all that happened in the two-wheeler market this week:

Aprilia GPR 250 unveiled in China

The Aprilia GPR 250 may make its way to India at Auto Expo 2020.

The Aprilia GPR 250 has been unveiled in China. The bike uses a 249.2 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine borrowed from the CFMoto 250NK. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine can produce 26.5 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque. Besides that, the Aprilia GPR 250 has a kerb weight of 150 kg! That’s surprisingly light for a 250 cc sports motorcycle.

Making this possible is a lightweight frame and aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are taken care of by an upside-down fork up front and a monoshock rear. Brakes on the Aprilia GPR 250 include discs at both ends assisted by dual-channel ABS.

There has been no official announcement on an Indian launch of Aprilia GPR 250, however, Aprilia has been known to be interested in bringing motorcycles in the engine displacement range of 150 cc to 250 cc.

Honda releases new teaser for upcoming 2020 Honda Africa Twin

The Honda Africa Twin will get a bigger and more powerful engine.

Japanese motorcycle maker Honda has released a new teaser video confirming that the 2020 Africa Twin will break cover on 23 September 2019.
