Expected to be Volvo Auto India's most affordable offering.
Volvo Auto India has confirmed that the Volvo V40 hatchback will be introduced in the country on June 17, 2015 (tomorrow) with the launch event taking place in Hyderabad. The V40 follows the V40 Cross Country, which was launched in India back in June 2013.
The V40 ditches the front and rear skid guards, the side body cladding, the black plastic inserts on the front bumper and roof rails, and opts for a conventional hatchback design instead. The standard V40 is also expected to get a lower suspension compared to the Cross Country.
Similar to the V40 Cross Country, Volvo is expected to offer the V40 in the T4 petrol and D3 diesel variants. The former is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 180 hp and 240 Nm on tap, while the latter gets a 2.0-liter diesel motor developing 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines get a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, and drive the front wheels.
Like in the Cross Country, the regular V40 too is expected with features such as the Adaptive Digital Display Console, a climate control system, a fixed panoramic roof, leather seats, powered front seats, auto bending headlights, LED daytime running lights, and choice between 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels.

The V40, like the Cross Country, will be imported into India through the CBU route. It will rival the Mercedes A Class and BMW 1 Series chiefly.
