Bookings for the Volvo XC40 have commenced the company has announced. Interested buyers can pre-book the car by depositing INR 5,00,000 at a Volvo dealership. Volvo Auto India will officially launch the XC40 on July 4, 2018. We have already driven the car in India and you can read our review here.
The Volvo XC40 will be imported to India via the CBU route. The company expects to register bookings for the first lot of 200 cars before the official launch and price announcement. The XC40 will rival the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and the MINI Countryman. The fully loaded Volvo XC40 R-Design will be the sole configuration on offer with an estimated sticker price of INR 40-44 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Volvo will offer the XC40 with their D4 2.0 L diesel engine. It produces 190 hp and 400 Nm and pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A Haldex AWD system is standard. The smallest SUV in Volvo's arsenal measures 4,425 mm long, 1,863 mm wide, and 1,652 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,702 mm. The Volvo XC40 is the first product based on the CMA or Common Modular Architecture platform. CMA has been jointly developed by Volvo and Geely.
Despite being an entry-level luxury segment product, Volvo has not skimped out on features. The SUV comes loaded with features, which are offered as standard. There's Volvo's Sensus infotainment setup on offer with a 9-inch touchscreen display, a 13-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, memory function for driver's seat, Park Pilot assist, Radar based Active Safety tech, heated seats and more. There are 5 drive modes on offer - Comfort, Eco, Off-road, Dynamic, and Individual.
The R-Design trim, which comes with a gloss black roof as standard, will be offered in three colours - Crystal White, Bursting Blue, and Fusion Red. The Volvo XC40 R-Design comes with 18-inch diamond cut 5-spoke alloy wheels and choice of two interior trims - Black and Black with Lava Red.

The Volvo XC40 will be the company's 9th offering in the Indian market. Its current lineup includes Volvo V40, Volvo V40 Cross Country, Volvo S60, Volvo S60 Cross Country, Volvo S90, Volvo V90 Cross Country, Volvo XC60, and Volvo XC90.
