The eighth generation VW Passat (B8) was unveiled as the new generation VW Magotan at Auto China 2016 (2016 Beijing Motor Show). Volkswagen sells both, European as well as North American versions of the Passat in China. The all-new 2016 VW Magotan is built and sold by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, while the 2016 VW Passat (NMS) is built and sold by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint-venture.
The 2016 VW Magotan measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,832 mm in width and 1,464 in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,871 mm. In comparison, the Euro-spec VW Passat measures 4,767 mm in length, 1,832 mm in width and 1,476 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,786 mm. The 2016 VW Magotan will be offered with 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, 1.8-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines.
Full specifications of the new generation VW Magotan are yet to be released, but Chinese media reports say that the all-new model will be offered with features like LED taillights, fully digital instrument panel with an LCD panel, head-up display, 12-speaker audio system, Adaptive Cruise Control and PLA Park Assist. The 2016 Magotan is expected go on sale on 20 July.
