Will enter production later this year.

The VW Teramont (name yet to be announced), the production version of the VW CrossBlue concept from the 2013 North American International Auto Show was leaked in a set of completely undisguised spyshots earlier this week. Here's a pictorial comparison between the VW CrossBlue concept and its production version.

Being a mid-size crossover/SUV class model, the VW Teramont will be a crucial product for Volkswagen in North America.

Volkswagen has apparently made many changes on outside, related to the headlamps, upper and lower grille elements, bumpers, tailgate and taillamps; the air vents in the front bumper have been replaced by foglamps. The facelifted VW Passat (NMS)-inspired radiator grille reflects this model's core target is North America and China.

The VW Teramont will share the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform with the second generation VW Tiguan, the Skoda Kodiaq and the Seat Ateca. One of the spyshots show a 'V6' badge on the tailgate, hinting the 280 hp 3.6-liter FSI V6 gasoline engine of the VW Passat (NMS) could be present under the hood. A smaller, more economical and efficient 1.8- or 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine model could also be included in the range. Transmission choices are expected to be 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG dual-clutch.

The VW Teramont will be manufactured for the North American markets by Volkswagen Group of America at the Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, USA. Production will commence later this year and the vehicle's sales will begin in 2017. In China, the new mid-size contender will be made by SAIC Volkswagen.
