The company will focus on automatic scooter and 150 cc motorcycle segments to increase the market share.
Speaking to ET Auto about future products, Roy Kurian, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India, said that the company has a platform ready but "will not launch 500 products in 5 years".
Mr. Kurian said that the 150 cc deluxe motorcycle segment in which it currently has a market share of 20%, and the growing automatic scooter segment, will be the key focus areas of the company in its objective of increasing the overall market share.
Without giving much details about the products in the pipeline, he denied the existence of a 125 cc automatic scooter. As far as the commuter motorcycle is concerned, the VP said that while it is an important segment, it is too early to discuss about a 100 cc commuter.
Yamaha's upcoming scooter plant in Chennai which is expected to start production towards the end of this year will also focus on export markets in South America and South Asia like Brazil, Colombia, Philippines and Indonesia.
