A Zigwheels report suggests that Yamaha plans to skip the 125cc scooter segment of the Indian market and will likely introduce a new 155cc scooter in the country in mid-2019. The two-wheeler manufacturer is reportedly planning to bring the NMax 155 to India in 2019. The 125cc variant of the product was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in India.

Do remember that the Yamaha Aerox S, another 155cc offering in the scooter segment, was seen on Indian shores. That scooter was imported into the country to be showcased at the Yamaha Scooter Boutique in Chennai. Currently, the 150cc scooter segment features only the Aprilia SR150.

The NMax is a performance-oriented scooter drawing power from the 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology, which is serving the R15. The motor is tuned to produce 15 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 14.4 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The scooter benefits from Yamaha’s Blue Core technology. In comparison, the Aprilia SR 150 draws 10.4 PS of maximum power at 6,750 rpm and 11.4 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. The source report, however, suggests that the engine may receive some tweaks for better fuel economy.

Internationally, the feature list on the NMax 155 is comprehensive, and the scooter comes equipped with LED lighting setup, a full-digital instrument cluster, and disc brakes on both ends with ABS. The front blinkers are integrated into the apron while a windscreen is aimed to provide some solace against windblasts. Unlike the conventional scooters, the NMax 155 gets a split footboard and a step-up seat. The saddle is large enough to accommodate two adults comfortably.

The under seat storage is quite big, and the scooter can ingest a full-face helmet under the saddle. Conventional telescopic front forks handle the suspension duties at the front and should offer a comfortable ride quality. The 13-inch wheels are wrapped in 110/70 front and 130/70 section rear tyres.

Pricing will be a crucial factor as anything above INR 90,000 may repel buyers, and the key to this is localisation of components. The scooter is currently available in select international markets. There is no confirmation from India Yamaha Motor on a new scooter. However, the source report claims that the NMax 155 should arrive in India by mid-2019.
