National launch to take place in Chennai.
Yamaha will launch an all-new product in India on April 17, 2015, though the brand has not confirmed if it will be a scooter or a motorcycle. The Japanese manufacturer said in an invitation that the April 17 launch "unfolds another exciting chapter of its journey in India".
Sources say that the product is likely to be a new commuter motorcycle called 'Saluto'. Upon closer inspection of the invite sent out by the company, one can see a sketch of a commuter motorcycle with a sober design language riding on 5-spoke alloy wheels.
Sources also added that the motorcycle is likely to be powered by a 123 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the same unit seen on the SS 125. On the SS 125, this engine makes 11 PS and 10.4 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
The Saluto when launched is expected to rival the likes of the TVS Phoenix and Honda Shine, with prices expected to start at INR 55,000, ex-Showroom.
