That said, motoring website, Rushlane claims that select Yamaha dealers have commenced the pre-bookings for the YZF-R3 unofficially. The website has published a screenshot of what is claimed to be a message from Yamaha dealership confirming the start of bookings for the YZF-R3. As reported earlier, the launch event will be held in Chennai, which is home to Madras Motor Race Track.

Do note that the updated Yamaha YZF-R3 is already available in select markets, although India is yet to receive its latest iteration. Regular followers would know that the previous (pre-facelift) YZF-R3 was offered in the Indian market. The new iteration benefits from styling updates that make the motorcycle even more appealing. The revised front fascia on the latest version features a twin-pod LED headlight setup and the company’s "cross-layered" fairing design. The design of the fairing on the updated model (2019 onwards) is claimed to reduce aerodynamic drag by 7% than its predecessor.

Yamaha has confirmed that it will start rolling out BS-VI compliant models from November this year. Thus, it will be safe to assume that the upcoming YZF-R3 will comply with the upcoming emission norms. The performance numbers on the BS-VI model could see some changes over the BS-IV iteration. The Euro-IV/BS-VI compliant YZF-R3, for reference, used a 321 cc. liquid-cooled, in-line twin-cylinder, DOHC, fuel-injected motor that produced 42 PS of peak power at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. This twin-cylinder engine employs a six-speed transmission. The Euro-V model should debut at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show.

The upcoming motorcycle also benefits from premium hardware specifications than its predecessor. The shock absorption department, for example, uses KYB-sourced inverted telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock suspension at the rear. In contrast, the previous-generation model used conventional forks at the front. Braking power will come from single discs at the front and back, while the safety net will include a dual-channel ABS.

The updated hardware will push the prices higher, and the new YZF-R3 will arrive with a more premium ex-showroom tag. The outgoing model, for reference, was sold at INR 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
