Latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) suggests that not a single unit of the Hero Karizma was manufactured between April and September 2019. Regular readers would know that the motorcycle never received the safety net of ABS, and not a single unit was sold between February and April (deadline to meet with new safety norms) this year. Hero MotoCorp had maintained that the model was not discontinued, and the brand was focussing on exports of this model.
The Hero Karizma ZMR can still be seen on the company’s Indian website. The flagship Hero product is equipped with a 223 cc air/oil-cooled, OHC engine with a fuel injection system that pumped out 20.27 PS of max power at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 19.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
Hero MotoCorp has expanded its premium range with the XPulse 200, XPulse 200T and the Xtreme 200S now. The fully faired Xtreme 200S makes marginally lower power output than the Karizma ZMR, but it also retails at a relatively affordable price tag. The Xtreme 200S retails at INR 99,400* and it packs features such as full LED headlamp, fully digital display with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. In terms of mechanical specifications, the Xtreme 200S and the Xtreme 200R use a 199.6 cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a carburettor that makes 18.4 PS of max power at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 17.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The BS-VI compliant version will use a fuel-injected motor.
Hardware specifications on the Xtreme 200S and the Xtreme 200R are identical. Shock absorption tasks are handled by 37 mm conventional telescopic front fork and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Anchoring duties are performed by a 276 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc at back. The safety net comprises a single-channel ABS.
