Skoda Laura vRS 3No body understands and exercises the concept of components and platform sharing better than the VW group.

In the quest to become the automotive superpower by 2018, the VW group is on an aggressive cost reduction mission. It's evident from the introduction of the scalable MQB platform (Modular Transverse Matrix) which will underpin almost all the cars under the VW group umbrella except ones the form Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti.

The next generation Laura (called as Octavia elsewhere in the world) which is expected to be unveiled in Geneva or Frankfurt motor show next year is expected to use the engine options from the Golf 7 as a part of the group's cost reduction philosophy. Of course it sits on the MQB platform just like the Golf 7.

The Golf 7 offers an option of five engines-3 petrols and 2 diesels. The 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI turbo petrol motors generate power outputs of 85 bhp and 138 bhp respectively. The Golf GTI uses a 2.0 TSI which belts out 221 horses and this engine would enter the hood of the Octavia vRS.

The two diesel sipping motors will be the 1.6 litre which develops 103 bhp and the 2.0 litre 148 bhp unit.

The introduction of Skoda Rapid in the European countries means the next generation Octavia could move upmarket in terms of equipment and dimensions.
