Days before its world debut on 24 October 2019, the 2020 VW Golf (VW Golf Mk8) has been teased again. The car was spied completely undisguised during its TVC shoot in Spain in August.
The all-new VW Golf features a revamped exterior styling. Speaking of which, it now sports a low-profile front-end, its headlights have grown much sleeker while the front now looks comparatively sharper and it gets a two-part lower air intake which makes the front look more intimidating. With the low squat stance, it reminds of the VW Scirocco which was discontinued in 2017.
At the back, the all-new VW Golf makes use of narrower tailgate which features VW Tiguan inspired L-shaped tail lamps. Overall, the changes introduced are evolutionary, and in short, the car looks sportier and aggressive than the last-gen model. It will be introduced only in a 5-door hatchback version, unlike the current model which is even presented as a 3-door hatch.
Though the exteriors on the next-gen VW Golf will be evolutionary, but the interiors will be anything but basic. It will offer a more spacious cabin thanks to the bigger dimensions. Also, the dashboard will have a more minimalist design which would spare greater space for the front occupants. Furthermore, it will get a brand-new line of infotainment systems from the MIB3 family with an embedded eSIM for better in-car internet connectivity and also a head-up display with augmented reality.
Underpinned by an upgraded MQB platform, the eight-gen VW Golf will be offered with a variety of engine options including the (95 PS/115 PS) 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol unit, the 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol unit, a new 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit and a new 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine are said to work in conjunction with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

To avoid clashing with the VW ID.3, there won't be an all-new VW eGolf this time around. That said, GTE plug-in hybrid, GTI performance and R high-performance variants will be present in the eighth-gen VW Golf range.
