Chevrolet Prisma sedan launched in Brazil

After number of spyshots and leaks, the Chevrolet Prisma has finally hit the Brazilian roads today.

As we all know, the Prisma is an instant sedan which emerged from the Chevrolet Onix hatchback. The car is based on the Gamma II platform and is tailor made for the Brazilian market.

The styling of the car hides the fact that it is an extruded hatchback. The front of the car is true to the Onix and the lines adopt a different path once past the B Pillar. The rear is neatly executed and there are lots of sharp creases in the car. We particularly like the creases on the boot lid.

The sedan measures 4.2 metres in length, 2.5 metres in wheelbase, 1.7 metres in width and 1.4 metres in height. The sedan has an impressive boot space of 500 litres.

Coming to the engines, the car has a choice of 80 bhp 1.0 litre or 106 bhp 1.4 litre flex fuel engines. Both the motors are mated to manual transmissions and there is no automatic gearbox on offer as of now.

Features like parking sensor, power steering, ABS with EBD, height adjustable driver's seat and dual airbags are standard across all variants. In addition the LTZ gets foglights, rear power windows, powered mirrors, trip computer and the MyLink multimedia infotainment system.

The Onix and the Hyundai HB20 are fighting neck and neck in the hatchback segment and their respective sedan versions, the Prisma and the HB20S (which is expected to be launched soon) are also set for a fierce battle in the sedan arena.

We can't help but notice that the Toyota Etios sedan, another recent launch in the same segment as the Prisma and the HB20S, simply doesn't have the mettle to give a tough fight.

The 1.0 LT retails at 34,990 Reals (around Rs. 9.5 lakhs), the 1.4 LT will be yours for 39,090 Reals (around Rs. 10.61 lakhs) and the top-of-the-line 1.4 LTZ will set you back by 45,990 Reals (around Rs. 12.48 lakhs).
