The compact SUV/MUV segment in India is proving to be a riot. Cars like Ertiga and Duster are overwhelmed by the non-stop bookings that are pouring in every day.
Also, Mahindra with the Quanto and Ford with the EcoSport will look for a sizable share of the pie. So, who wouldn’t want a piece of it? After all, the compact UV segment looks the most promising one and already started giving sleepless nights to the sedans.
In a recent interaction with Times Of India, Kevin Wale, GM's chief country operations officer for China, India and ASEAN told that GM India is contemplating the possibility of introducing two new products, one each in compact SUV and small car segments. However he declined to discuss about the individual product details.
With all possibility, the compact SUV Mr.Wale was taking about would be the Chevrolet Trax, a global product which will be sold in 140 countries. In India, it’ll develop rivalry with Duster, EcoSport, Quanto and the likes.

The small car may be a Spark-like mini that could make use of components from Spark and Beat, including the latter’s 1.0 litre diesel motor. Cost will be the priority and GM could do something similar to Eon which basically inherited the underpinnings of the Santro.
GM India is busy in ensuring that their soon to be launched Sail twins and Enjoy MPV are up and running smoothly and successfully. So whatever be the two new products, we will have to wait at least until the first quarter of 2014.
