India Yamaha Motor has sent out “Block Your Date” invitations for a new product launch that is scheduled on December 2019. India Yamaha Motor has remained tight-lipped about the details, although the company has confirmed that it will announce a new launch. The event will be held in Chennai, which is home to Madras Motor Race Track, and thus the new Yamaha YZF-R3 could be the mystery model.

The new Yamaha YZF-R3 is already available in several international markets. In comparison to the previous generation model that was sold in India, the updated YZF-R3 (and YZF-R25 in select markets) gets a styling upgrade in the form of a revised fascia with dual LED headlights and updated fairing design. Called "cross-layered" by Yamaha, the new design of the fairing is claimed to reduce aerodynamic drag by 7%.
In terms of performance, the YZF-R3 continues to use a 321 cc in-line twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, fuel-injected engine that delivers 42 PS of max power at 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. This twin-cylinder mill employs a six-speed gearbox. If launched in India, the motorcycle will feature a BS-VI compliant engine. We expect to see the Euro-V ready model at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show.
The international-spec YZF-R3 benefits from features like inverted telescopic front forks sourced from KYB and a mono-shock suspension at the back. The previous-generation model, on the other hand, used conventional front forks. Anchoring department includes single discs on both wheels, while the safety department features a dual-channel ABS.
Do note that Yamaha has made no statements about the details of the upcoming event. Yamaha will also start rolling out its BS-VI compliant motorcycles from November this year, and we could see the updated line-up arrive at the aforementioned event. The updated models will carry a premium over the BS-IV models. Yamaha has hinted at a 10-15% price hike for the same.
