Geneva Live - Jeep Cherokee makes European debut with turbo-diesel engine

The Jeep Cherokee has made its European debut at the Geneva Motor show. Powered by a new diesel engine, the Jeep Cherokee will be available in showrooms during the second quarter of 2014 in three trim levels - Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk.

The Jeep Cherokee also sees in it the debut of an all-new 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo-diesel engine comes in either 170 hp or 140 hp outputs, both generating 350 Nm of peak torque and incorporating start/stop technology. The 170 hp version of the engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox (also making its debut in Europe), while the lower-powered version is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Another engine, the 3.2-liter V6 Pentastar petrol engine will also be available, mated to the 9-speed A/T, producing 272 hp and 315 Nm of torque. In Russia and the Middle East, Fiat will also offer a 2.4-liter Tigershark Multiair I-4 petrol engine.

The SUV is also available with both two- and four-wheel drive and the 4WD version uses a rear axle disconnect technology, wherein the 4WD is turned off when not required, to improve fuel efficiency.

On the inside, the car features a 7-inch TFT reconfigurable screen for its instrument console and a touchsreen multimedia centre on the centre console.
