Taiwanese electric two-wheeler maker Kymco has taken the wraps off its first electric superbike – the Kymco SuperNEX – at the EICMA 2018.
Electric motorcycles aren’t fun to ride as mostly there is no transmission and the lack of performance. However, the Kymco SuperNEX is set to change that as the motorcycle comes equipped with a gearbox and performance figures that will put a superbike to shame, reportedly. That said, Kymco Global hasn’t revealed the complete spec sheet or the launch plans of the SuperNEX Concept.
The design is the highlight of the Kymco SuperNEX, and the company hasn’t cut corners regarding aesthetics. However, how the production version shapes up, remains to be seen. The motorcycle features twin bug-eyed headlights, chiselled fairing, and a sculpted fuel tank with a raised tail section and floating LED taillights.
The performance figures of the Kymco SuperNEX Electric superbike concept will leave you astonished. The motorcycle cab sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, while 0-200 km/h comes in 7.5 seconds and 0-250 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The SuperNEX has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
However, the company hasn’t revealed any info about the riding range or the battery charge times. With that said, the company has announced that the Kymco SuperNEX will feature a 6-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch. Moreover, the SuperNEX concept also features an 'active acoustic motor', which is nothing but a speaker that modulates the sound to mimic like an IC (internal combustion) engine.
The Kymco SuperNEX is underpinned by a perimeter frame that holds the electric motor and the battery pack, while it features an aluminium swingarm and lightweight alloy wheels. Suspension components include fully adjustable Ohlins US forks up front and TTX mono-shock at the back. Braking duties are shouldered by twin discs at the front and a single rotor at the end with Brembo Monobloc M4 callipers.

For novice riders, the company will also offer the Kymco FEP (Full Engagement Performance) electronics package, which includes launch control, traction control system, rear-wheel lift control, and multiple riding modes. The bike will be customised as per the rider's needs with the help of the FEP package. That said, Kymco Global is expected to enter India in 2021 with its range of electric scooters.
