Mahindra plans to launch multiple new products this fiscal year. Among them will be the Mahindra badged G4 SsangYong Rexton. Showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2018, the Mahindra Rexton, referred to unofficially as Mahindra XUV700 will go on sale this festive season as per Autocar India.
While the previous generation Rexton was sold in Indian under the SsangYong brand, the latest generation that was unveiled in March 2017 will arrive with a Mahindra badge. It was showcased in its pre-production form at the Auto Expo complete with a Mahindra grille. However, the name is yet to be disclosed.
Mahindra will bring the G4 SsangYong Rexton only in its 7-seat form to India. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that develops 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. A 7-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system are confirmed, but there’s no word on the availability of a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Rexton will be imported from South Korea as a CKD. Assembly will take place at Mahindra's Chakan plant. According to an earlier report, Mahindra will start importing the CKD kits in the third quarter of this year.

Rivals of the Mahindra Rexton aka Mahindra XUV700 include Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Isuzu MU-X. Autocar India reports that Mahindra is expected to price the Rexton around INR 3-4 lakhs lower than the segment-favourite Toyota Fortuner to entice buyers.
