Will reportedly debut at IAA 2017 in September.

Underpinned by the UKL front-wheel-drive platform, the BMW X2 will join the BMW X series as the smallest "Sports Activity Coupe".

The production BMW X2 (codename: BMW F49) has less aggression and sportiness. The front-end has a more conventional bumper and grille layout and adds on circular fog lamps above the side air vents. The headlamps are bigger and lose out on the sharpness of the concept version. At the sides, the door panels, greenhouse, mirrors and door panels adopt a production-oriented design. The space for the BMW badge on the C-pillar is still there.

At the rear, the tail lamps look bigger, and the revised bumper houses a single exhaust pipe, not two like in the concept version.

Underpinned by the UKL front-wheel-drive platform, the BMW X2 will join the BMW X series as the smallest "Sports Activity Coupe" slotting below the BMW X4 and BMW X6 but above conventional "Sports Activity Vehicle" BMW X1. German reports suggest that the X2 will share 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with the latter. Interestingly, BMW will reportedly pair the 1.5-litre engines with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the first time in the X2.

The BMW X2 is said to have its world premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2017) that opens September 12 and hit European markets in the first half of 2018.

In India, the BMW X6, selling exclusively in the xDrive40d M Sport model for a price of over INR 1.19 crore (ex-showroom New Delhi), is a niche model, and the BMW X4 was never launched. However, BMW may decide to locally assemble the BMW X2 as it does with the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo. The company may showcase it at Auto Expo 2018 to guage the potential customers' response to the Range Rover Evoque challenger.
