Has a lower drag coefficient than the Tata Aria.

A report last month claimed that the Tata Hexa will be given 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, a first on a Tata Motors' passenger vehicle. Gaadi.com now reports that the 6-speed automatic transmission will be sourced from GMPT (General Motors Powertrain), a GM-owned company.

The Hexa will continue using the Aria's 2.2-liter diesel engine but with a different state of tune.

In all likelihood, the 6-speed AT that will be seen on the Hexa could be the same 6-speed AT that does duty on the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which will go on sale in India in the second half of this year. On the Trailblazer, this transmission handles 500 Nm of torque from a 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine, so it should be capable of handling the Hexa's 2.2-liter engine.

Further, the report claims the manufacturing feasibility and associated tooling of the crossover has been outsourced to LG Korea. Thanks to the redesign, the Hexa has a lower coefficient of drag than the Aria on which it is based, and this will ensure in a higher top-speed and better fuel economy.

The Hexa, when launched, will produce about 154 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, with drive going to two and all wheels. Apart from the new exterior, the interior design has also been revamped to bring the SUV inline with Tata's other products like the Bolt and Zest.
