UM Global to start bookings in India in June - IAB Report

Constant speculations have been in the air surrounding the launch of UM Motorcycles, a US based manufacturer who showcased their range of motorcycles at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi.

In a joint venture with Kashipur based Lohia Auto, UM Motorcycles plan to introduce its extensive range of sport bikes, scooters, dual-sport and cruisers to India. The company's products are targeted towards to fastest growing 250-500 cc market, and with an affordable price tag, we reckon that UM products should do reasonable well in the country.

While the company has setup their office in India, they are currently in talks with dealers all across the country and plan to start off with outlets initially in major metros. In the first phase, the manufacturer plans to start with 50 dealerships across the country which would be initially offering cruisers in the 250-500 cc range.

The company recently spoke about their plans to start bookings for their first 250 cc and 300 cc products by June 2015 with deliveries commencing by the end of July, to Motoroids. After the first two motorcycles have been launched, the company plans to introduce a bigger 400 cc motorcycle, UM India Two Wheelers Pvt. Ltd Managing Director Rajeev Mishra told the website. With this move, the company would have a presence in three engine displacement segments in quick succession.

Going further, UM Motorcycles plans to keep launching four to five models on an yearly basis. While their initial concentration would be towards launching the cruiser category of products that would compete with offerings from Royal Enfield, their next step of expansion would include bringing their range of sport bikes to India.
