Manufacturing to begin at Kashipur,Uttarakhand.
U.S.-based UM Global Motorcycles is on the final stages of making its entry into the Indian market, sources told Indian Autos Blog. The brand showcased a range of motorcycles at the Auto Expo 2014 in February last year, and since has been charting its entry into the country.
UM Global's products will be manufactured at Lohia Auto's Kashipur, Uttarakhand plant to begin with. "There will be no CBU as manufacturing commences right from the start", the source said. The facility is about 50,000 sq.ft large.
The brand will initially have at least one dealer in major metropolitan cities. The first dealerships will be up and running before the end of this year for sure, but UM and its dealers are exploring to fast track their launch to the festive season period (September-November).
Initially, UM will sell 3 products in India, with the Renegade being one of the most sought after. The source revealed that UM's largest competitor will be Royal Enfield in India. However, the brand will not introduce premium pricing, instead it will deliver "high-quality products at affordable prices", the source said.
