Autocar Professional reports that the Yamaha MT-03 will be launched in India, likely at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida this week. The MT-03 is the naked version of the Yamaha YZF-R3 that is already on sale in the country.
The publication reports that the Japanese brand has been mulling over launching either the MT-25 or the MT-03, and has decided to roll out the larger bike just like how the company ruled out the R25 and launched the R3 instead.
The Yamaha R3 is imported via CKD route and is assembled at Yamaha's Surajpur plant. When it was launched last year, Roy Kurian, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motor India, announced that the sales target of the Yamaha R3 is 2,000 units per year. Around 560 units of the sportbike have been sold thus far. It is likely that the MT-03 would have a similar target.

The R3 and the MT-03 are powered by a 321 cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that is tuned to produce 42 PS and 29.6 Nm, and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Both the models are equipped with a dual channel ABS system as standard. The MT-03 will compete with the KTM Duke 390, the upcoming BMW G310R and the Mahindra Mojo.
